VIM (Vacuum Induction Melting) is a metallurgical melting process that melts metals and alloys by electromagnetic induction under high‑vacuum environment.

It heats the charge inside a water‑cooled copper crucible via induction coils in vacuum, effectively removing gases such as hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, reducing impurity content. Widely used for producing high‑quality special alloys, superalloys, titanium‑based alloys and high‑grade steel ingots.

ESR (Electro‑Slag Remelting) is an advanced secondary metallurgy refining process. A consumable electrode made of pre‑melted alloy is remelted by the heat generated from electric current passing through high‑temperature molten slag. Liquid metal droplets pass through the slag bath to realize desulfurization and inclusion removal, then solidify directionally in the water‑cooled mould to obtain dense, homogeneous high‑quality ingots. ESR furnace is widely applied for superalloys, tool steels, high‑strength steels and special‑purpose alloys.

VAR (Vacuum Arc Remelting) is a secondary vacuum remelting metallurgical process. A consumable electrode is melted by high‑temperature electric arc under high‑vacuum condition. Molten metal droplets fall into a water‑cooled copper crucible, where they solidify directionally to form a refined ingot. The vacuum environment promotes degassing of hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, reduces volatile impurities and improves ingot compactness and microstructure uniformity. VAR furnace is mainly used for superalloys, titanium alloys and high‑reactive special metals, commonly combined with VIM to form the classic VIM‑VAR production route.

Under high‑vacuum or inert protective‑gas atmosphere, it performs stress‑relief annealing, recrystallization annealing and solution treatment for stainless‑steel, superalloy and precision‑forged workpieces.
